Greedy grocers and the Midas touch

The strike at Metro foods makes me think of King Midas.

The groceries at Metro have turned to gold in the last few years. Massive sales and profits have made executives rich

Like Midas, who couldn’t stop turning things into gold, Metro executives can’t stop themselves from making more and more profit out of every last orange, grape and potato.

Midas was cursed because he turned his own daughter into gold.

Metro executives are doing the same with their customers and their workers.

They see riches, not people.

That’s why Metro workers are on strike: workers are making record profits for Metro but they don’t make enough to make a living themselves.

Midas eventually sought atonement and his curse was removed.  It’s time for Metro executives to do the same.
