Fit for a man

I’ve been wearing the same jeans for two weeks. Yes, I’ve washed them halfway through the week. But I can’t stop wearing them. These pants changed the way I feel. I’m not saying I look better. I’m just saying I feel better.  I got them hemmed at Canada Tailoring in Oakwood Village.

My new jeans were nothing special. I got them at Winners for a fair price.  They were too long and I remembered the words of an ex-girlfriend from years ago. “You dress like a little boy, not a man.”

My wife said to get them hemmed at the place on Oakwood. She said he did an amazing job fitting our daughter’s graduation dress. I went, got some pants hemmed and some other clothes dry cleaned. My jeans were the first pants I tried on.

I guess after 50 years of tailoring, you just get good. And Laal Moh Jaafary is really good. The jeans fit like they were made for me.

After his perfect hem, I wanted to see what else Jaafary could do. I’m tired of looking frumpy: baggy pants, oversized shirts, and lumpy jackets. That’s been my uniform for too long. So, I took in three baggy pants. Jaafary asked to look at one pair like a doctor asks to look at what ails you.

He looked at my least baggy pants and measured the bottom hem. “These pants are 9 inches wide. That’s the way it was in the past. You have to take off at least two inches.” Jaafary is at least 80 years old, telling me my clothes are old fashioned.

Getting my first pants hemmed cost me $10. To get them tapered was going to cost me $30.  I admit, that seems steep. But I can’t get new form fitting pants for $30. I’m getting three pairs of pants that I’ll be super happy to wear for $90.

I’m looking forward to getting my tapered pants on Friday. I’d like to wear more than these jeans for the rest of the month.
