Thank God for the LRT!

“Thank God.” That’s what Doug Ford said. He was jubilant at a press conference saying the Eglinton LRT was coming in September. But that was last month.

No one believed him, except the media. They’ve been reporting it for years. And each day that goes by without our LRT means real life consequences on Eglinton. Daily frustrating traffic jams in Little Jamaica. People crowded into buses like angry sardines. And who wants to walk around Eglinton and see the latest store that opened and closed within 6 months?

The September promise is now being called “a reach.” The latest promise from former interim TTC CEO Greg Percy is a fall or year-end opening instead. But even Percy said the opening date is still up to Metrolinx.

So, we’re back to where we started.

Many people in the city and in the province believed Ford. Last month a good friend called me to say “Congratulations! Your LRT is coming!” He was sincerely happy for me.

That saddened me. My friend is an educated and intelligent person. If the media is reporting that the boss of the project says it’s coming in September, then what else is he supposed to believe?

That’s why we keep getting these false promises. They work. They work for Ford. For Metrolinx. For the company that made billions in profits from our tax dollars.

God has nothing to do with it.

  1. LRT business is disgusting, meaning all the people that have to do we it… starting by the one who publicly try to fool people into believing it will open any time soon. Disgusting people.
