Randy’s is back from the dead

There were two things I noticed when I went to Randy’s reopening on Friday: the line of people and the wind.

There was so much wind, I could barely hear, and I could barely open my eyes to see. But that wind didn’t seem to bother the people in line. They were calm. They just wanted to get into Randy’s, two years after they thought it had closed for good.

Entire families showed up to the opening. Little children with their moms sat on benches. Grandmothers were taking pictures. I took a few pictures and kept going on Eglinton.

All I could see was an empty street until I got to a crowd of people outside the local food bank. The food bank and Randy’s:  the only two places on Eglinton that felt alive, surrounded by businesses that were barely open, closed down or shut down in the last year.

Randy’s rose from the dead in the cemetery that is Eglinton West.  Celebrate the miracle yourself at Randy’s.
