Ghost Train

There’s an idea of the Eglinton LRT. It’s a wonderful idea. A modern, faster train that joins the city, east and west. And it’s in the neighbourhood. But it’s just an idea. It’s not real. The Eglinton LRT isn’t coming. Not this week. Not this month. Not this year.

The company that’s building the LRT is getting paid millions not to build it. They’ve taken the Ontario government to court many times. And they’ve won at least half a billion dollars :

  • In 2018, Crosslinx sued and was paid $237 M
  • In 2020, Crosslinx sued and was paid $325 M in 2021
  • In 2023, Crosslinx didn’t say how much they were suing for, but they wanted Metrolinx to release $300 M from a project fund.

The idea of the train, not building it, has been good for their business.

The government loves using the idea of the train too. The government makes announcements that the non-existent Eglinton LRT is going to Mississauga.

It’s not here. But it’s going there.

The Eglinton LRT is just an idea that the government and the company are using. But they want us, the public, to believe in it as if it were real. Kind of like a ghost.

The ghost train is coming.  But do you believe in ghosts?
